While some Gunsmiths will design a gun from scratch, more commonly, Gunsmiths will repair, maintain, and modify firearms such as handguns, shotguns, and rifles.

What is the difference between a Gunsmith and an Armorer?
Gunsmiths and Armorers are very close, however, a Gunsmith has more intimate knowledge of a wider range of firearms and can do more customized work and repairs on them. Armorers can replace parts in standard firearms but are limited when it comes to more custom requests.

Although a Gunsmith degree or certificate takes about 2 years, it takes several more years to really become a knowledgeable and dedicated Gunsmith. The Houck family has been working on specialty firearms for over 35 years.
